Hey, I'm Cam.

Cam Clayton, MD, CCFP

GP Hospitalist & Family Physician
Comox Valley, British Columbia

I'm a GP hospitalist and family physician in the Comox Valley. I split my time between hospitalist shifts and community family practice.

I built The Hospitalist Workout because I kept hitting the same gap, and so does everyone I trained with. You finish residency with two or three months of inpatient medicine, you start your first block of shifts, and there is no structured way to keep building clinical reasoning once you're doing the job. Plenty of content exists. None of it is a curriculum.

So I started writing cases — real clinical patterns from a community hospital, grounded in current guidelines, built around the decisions that are genuinely hard rather than the ones that make a tidy flowchart. What started as study material for myself turned into something I think other hospitalists, especially early-career ones, will find useful.

Every case is fictional. They're composites of patterns, never real patients. Every case is reviewed by me before it opens in the library, and if a guideline moves, the case gets updated.

If you have feedback, a case suggestion, or you spot a clinical error — I genuinely want to hear it. Corrections take priority over everything else on the list.

What this is and isn't

It is

An independent, case-based programme written by one practising hospitalist, for Canadian GP hospitalists doing inpatient work. Competency-mapped, guideline-cited, and updated when the guidelines change.

It isn't

Accredited. There are no Mainpro+ credits attached, and I won't claim otherwise until that's in place. It's also not affiliated with a university, a health authority, or industry — nobody pays for placement here.
